Getting to Know Me
Well, as you already know, my name is Tara Thrasher. I am 30 years young and I
have been a licensed massage therapist for about 9 years. I truly love my
career as a massage therapist. I pretty much fell into this career path. To be
honest, I was disenchanted with my current situation at 20 years old and needed
a clearly defined direction for my life. I knew I was destined to do something
important and meaningful with my life. I knew on a deeper level of my being
that The Creator had something very special in mind for my life and me. I am an
Army Brat, the proud daughter of a Retired Chief Warrant Officer 3rd Rank
Criminal Investigator. My father served proudly for the United States Army for
over 23 years as a criminal investigative detective or CID Agent. He retired our family in sunny Molino, Florida. Molino is about 30 miles north
of Pensacola. As much as I love Pensacola now, at 20 years old it did not hold
much promise for me. I was burned out of the hectic college schedule at PJC and
really couldn’t imagine myself attending countless more years of college before my life would
begin. I was an average student, but thrived in the hands on learning I
received at Florida’s Therapeutic Massage School. Life set me on a path with specific circumstances and people that eventually led
me to look at massage therapy as a career choice. What I liked about it first
and foremost was the fact that I could be trained and working in less than a
year. Out of Pensacola and on my way to exciting new places and things. I have
my hands and can travel anywhere. Of course, once I began my quest toward my
new career, my motives changed. I remembered that I have always had an
interest, a passion for childbirth. At 10 years old I was fascinated with
pregnancy and babies. I was intrigued with the idea that a baby grows inside
the mother and completely fascinated with how that baby was born. Not many
10-year-old girls read books (with pictures!!) about giving birth and all the
myriad of ways a baby comes into the world. I thought I wanted to be an OBGYN,
but college, medical school was not for me. Plus I decided that OBGYN’s do not get to have a personal relationship with their patients. They come in
and go out. Not much time to get to know the mother and share her experience.
That is what I wanted to be a part of. I wanted the opportunity to experience childbirth first hand. I wanted to be
able to touch the mommy’s belly and feel the baby move inside. Do you know what that feels like?? It’s amazing and something I always wanted to do since I was a little girl. I can
remember being drawn to pregnant women and wanting so desperately to touch
their belly. You could say it is my destiny to be a part of the birthing world.
So, when my path leads me to massage, I saw a golden door in front of me.
Divine inspiration spoke to me in the deepest part of my being and said this is
the path to all of my dreams. It was something that I just knew was right. All
of the events that came after my decision to become a massage therapist are
what many of my clients enjoy learning in our sessions together. I am a very
open and honest person. I share my experiences freely with anyone who wishes to
learn from them. I feel privileged to be in a place in life where I am
comfortable with myself and happy because I know I am fulfilling What’s not to love?? I have immense job satisfaction. I get to pick my own hours
(however I am a bit of a workaholic—my clients need me—I try my best to be there for them). My clients love me and often hug me after
their sessions. Hugs are Great!!! It definitely strokes my ego and keeps me
feeling good about myself. I get to help people feel good and take some of the
stress off their shoulders for a while. I am privileged to be able to truly
affect people’s lives in a positive and nurturing way. I feel like I make a positive
contribution to humanity one person at a time.
I am a March 2nd Pisces, a strong water element, which means that I am a leader
and a follower. I am compatible with almost anyone. It is in my nature to make
people feel at ease in my presence. I help bring out the strong positive traits
in people. I embrace my water nature. My attitude can be a slow moving stream
that is in rhythm with the ebb and flow of life. Or I can be a fierce storm
that is passionate and protective towards those I love and care for. I can
slowly erode away a ‘stuck mentality or way of being’ through patience and understanding. Or I can blast through a challenge with
fierce determination and motivation. Sometimes I jump into the deep end of life
without flotation devise and often need a strong-grounded individual to help
pull me back into shallower waters. I use a lot of metaphors as visuals to help
get my deep thoughts across. I am a dreamer and highly imaginative. I have a
ton of brilliant ideas, many of which I have successfully seen to fruition. I
am very intuitive and honing my intuitive nature with each passing day. I am an
emotion-based creature, which means I make decisions based on how it makes me
feel rather than if it is completely logical. I am also very analytical and
often think about a situation for a long time, imagining all the potential
outcomes. In essence, I am a very deep and thoughtful person. Many people have
told me that I am much wiser than my age should dictate. I feel this is true. I
have had many intense life experiences that have shaped me into the
well-rounded adult that I am today. The great thing is that I am finally
learning from all of those past mistakes and thankfully not making them over
and over again. These experiences have equipped me to be a more compassionate,
tolerant and loving individual. I am less likely to judge and reject anyone for
his or her choices. I can relate to most people and I am very empathetic. My
nature is to nurture. I love to be nurtured, I crave affection and attention,
so I willingly give those things to others. I love to feel good and to be
positive, so I try my best to make other people feel good and I am positive to
them. I love to empower others. Nothing is more exciting than getting someone
else excited about their life. I love working with people who need to be
empowered. We all need someone in our life that makes us feel good about
ourselves, but sometimes we do not have it. I feel a great sense of purpose
when I can help my clients feel good about them selves and keep moving forward.
(Water elements cannot be stagnant, so we help motivate the waters to keep
flowing.) I feel a great since of joy when I can help my clients feel happy
when they leave me, even if they were in tears when they walked through my
door. Many people are deeply sad and just need someone to give them a little
love

and attention, even if it is only for an hour. What better gift can I give than
my loving attention and a wonderful massage??
Massage is one of the greatest gifts I can give to a person. In so doing, I am
sharing a part of myself with them. When I am truly focused on my client, tuned
into their energy, I can feel magic happen. The true magic of Healing! It does
not come from me, but through me. I can feel the power of the body, the true
energetic exchange that magnifies itself through my hands and leads me to all
the places that are in need of care, attention and healing. So many of my
clients say, “how did you know exactly where to massage to make my headache go away, or to
make my back pain stop throbbing?” “How do you know just how deep to go so that it hurts but feels so good at the
same time?” I have had clients come in and try to test me to see if I know what I am doing.
They may not tell me they are having problems with a certain area, but are
amazed when I am guided to their troubled spots and discover new ones they did
not know they had. I listen with my hands, with my ears, with my intuition,
with my intellect and with my entire being. My job as your massage therapist is
to listen, to nurture and to help you feel better.
Many of my long time clients have become some of the best friends that I have. I
see them every week and know that we have built a relationship bonded of trust
and understanding between one another. We share this life experience. We laugh
together (a lot), we sometimes cry sharing some of our deepest truths and most
often we discuss ways to make life better and more enjoyable. I feel a true
connection to my regular long time clients and I am blessed that they are in my
life. I know that I tend to attract the people to me that I need and that need
me back. My profession is based on building healthy positive relationships. Sure, I do
have people who come to me just to get a great massage. We do not know each
other well and do not feel the need to. Intuition tells me who wants more than
just a massage. Intuition and experience tells me who is open and receptive to
learning more about taking care of their body, deepening their sense of well
being and improving their health. Wisdom teaches me when to reach out and when
to just be present and quite.
Hobbies and Interests—I have so many interests and curiosities that I could not possibly dictate all
of them here. But my main interests are of growing Spiritually, Intellectually,
Emotionally and Holistically. I feel my purpose in life is to become as
enlightened as possible in this human experience.
My path has drawn me to be curious about the Yogic path and a deeper
understanding of what that entails. I am a mere fledgling on the Yogic path,
but I do practice Yoga at least 2—3 times a week to keep my body fit and my mind clear of confusion. I have
accomplished many amazing things with my physical body by practicing Yoga
regularly. I also enjoy working privately with a Pilates instructor 2 times a
week to help maintain a strong core and stable back. In my profession as a
massage therapist it is vital that I keep my body in good shape. It was not
always so for me and I paid the price with a lot of chronic pain and poor body
mechanics. Staying in good physical shape has always been a challenge for me. I
love to play soccer. That is my favorite sport. I love to watch it on TV
(English Premiere League mostly and American MLS), I love to play it and talk
about it. It is my deepest wish to give David Beckham and Christiano Rinaldo a
massage some day. *Swoon*
I am also interested in all things Spiritual. I enjoy talking to different
people about their Spiritual experiences and learning from their journey. I am
not so much interested in Religion, but I do engage in study that gives me a
deeper understanding of the history of Religion and it’s influence on the human culture. I also enjoy learning anything I can about
Holistic healing practices, Traditional Healing Practices, Folk Remedies,
Herbal Remedies, Energy Healing, Pranic Healing, current mainstream medical
practices, etc. Anything dealing with healing the human body interests me
deeply. I am always curious about learning something new and then sharing my
insights with others.
I also love and adore my family. I strive to be the best wife and mother I
possibly can be. I constantly educate and improve upon myself so that I can
teach my family good values. I also do these things so that I can improve
myself so that I am a good example and role model for my family. My motivation
for my entire career and life path is for the benefit and betterment of my
loved ones, my cherished family. I want my husband and daughter, my mother,
father and brother to be proud of me. I desire their respect, their approval and their complete support in my life’s endeavors. I am blessed because I have a wonderful supportive family.
Lastly but certainly not least, I LOVE the mountains!! My greatest goal in life
currently is to get my family to Colorado to live by the Rocky Mountains.
*sigh* My soul yearns for the serenity of the mountains and wild land of the
western United States. I love to be outdoors, camping, hiking, riding bikes,
and just enjoying Mother Earth. That is my religion—Earth Worship. I love to be connected to all things natural. I consider myself a
“modern hippie” (meaning I do bathe regularly and shave my armpits). But seriously, I do love
being outside and enjoying the beauty of nature. My husband and I dream of
building our own Cobb house (kinda looks like a hobbit house from Lord of the
Rings), totally Green, made of earthen stone bricks and wood foraged from the
essence of the earth. It could happen. We shall see, but we do dream a good
dream of staying connected to Mother Earth.
Well’ that’s probably all you really need to know about me at this point. If you honestly
read this far then I might be interesting to you and I thank you for the
compliment. If you skipped this section, I’m not offended. But I do appreciate those who took the time to learn a little
about who I am and what I care about. Thank you for honoring me with your time
and attention. May you be blessed with abundance, health, wealth and joy!! Live
Joyfully, Love Unconditionally, Dance Freely and Be Filled with Happiness!!!
Love, Tara R. Thrasher
